David J. Meyers et al.

Summary: Expansion of the Medicare Advantage program from 2009 to 2018 led to increased enrollment among racial/ethnic minorities and traditionally marginalized groups. The growth rate was higher among Black, Hispanic, and dually enrolled beneficiaries compared to White and nondual beneficiaries. The implications of this increased heterogeneity in the program for enrollee outcomes remain uncertain.

Use of Diabetes Medications in Traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage

Bruce E. Landon et al.

Summary: The study compared the use of diabetes medications between beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Advantage (MA) and traditional Medicare (TM). It found that MA enrollees were more likely to be treated with metformin and sulfonylureas and less likely to receive costly newer medications than those in TM, but there was substantial variation within MA. A limitation of the study is that glucose control using glycated hemoglobin levels could not be assessed.
