Deep brain stimulation for myoclonus dystonia syndrome: a meta-analysis with individual patient data

Xin Wang et al.

Summary: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has shown promising clinical outcomes for myoclonus-dystonia (M-D), with significant improvements in myoclonus and dystonia symptoms. Older age at onset and shorter disease duration are associated with better myoclonus outcomes. Most adverse events are mild and transient, and pallidal stimulation may be favored due to fewer stimulation-induced events.

Long-term effects of pallidal and thalamic deep brain stimulation in myoclonus dystonia

Patricia Krause et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the long-term effects of GPi and/or thalamic DBS in seven MD patients, highlighting GPi as the preferable stimulation target with safe and sustained improvements in motor symptoms (myoclonus>dystonia) and disability. No serious long-lasting adverse events related to stimulation were observed.
