Summary: This systematic review evaluated the impact of intraarrest corticosteroids on neurologic outcomes and mortality in cardiac arrest patients. Results showed that corticosteroids as part of a specific treatment regimen improved neurologic outcomes and survival rate in in-hospital cardiac arrest patients, but had limited effectiveness when used alone. Future randomized controlled trials are needed to further analyze the association between corticosteroids and mortality in cardiac arrest patients.

The main factors associated with increased ICP after PEEP augmentation included reduced Crs, lower MAP, lung recruitment, and increased PaCO2. However, none of these factors was able to predict, at baseline, the ICP response to PEEP.

Neurological manifestations were prevalent among hospitalized patients with COVID-19 and were associated with higher in-hospital mortality. Patients with preexisting neurological disorders were at increased risk of developing neurological signs and/or syndromes in COVID-19.

Further studies are needed to confirm these findings and define COVID-19-specific pathophysiology before changes in treatment practices can be recommended.
