Advanced deep learning model-based impact characterization method for composite laminates

Kyung-Chae Jung et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a structural health monitoring system for smart composite structures using signal processing, deep learning algorithms, and optimization theory. Piezoelectric ribbon sensors and discrete wavelet transform were utilized for creating smart composite fabric and converting impact signals into input image data. Optimal hyperparameter values were determined based on Bayesian optimization theory, and data augmentation was employed to ensure sufficient data for training impact characterization models. Performance of each optimized neural network model was evaluated by comparing test errors under different conditions.

An electric circuit analogy-based homogenization approach for predicting the effective permeability of complex dual-scale porous media

Muhammad A. Ali et al.

Summary: The study successfully utilized an analogy of electric circuits to predict the principle permeability of a dual-scale 3D orthogonal reinforcement. By dividing the 3D complex reinforcement into regions with uniform permeability and constructing an equivalent circuit diagram, the models were able to accurately correlate with digital flow simulations. Additionally, the significance of micro-scale permeability was highlighted when the overall permeability fell below a certain threshold, impacting resin flow patterns within the 3D reinforcement.
