W-Cu composites with excellent comprehensive properties

Tielong Han et al.

Summary: This study achieved improved copper connectivity and uniformly dispersed ultrafine tungsten particles in ultrafine grained (UFG) W-Cu composites. The as-prepared UFG W-Cu composites showed enhanced combination of hardness, compressive strength and electrical conductivity compared with previous reports. The strengthening mechanisms of the presented W-Cu composites were quantitatively discussed.

Hydrogen embrittlement of bulk W-0.5 wt% ZrC alloy induced by annealing in hydrogen atmosphere

H. Wang et al.

Summary: Annealing of tungsten alloy containing zirconium carbide in a hydrogen atmosphere can induce hydrogen embrittlement, leading to degradation of mechanical properties. The importance of atmosphere choice for annealing tungsten materials to avoid hydrogen embrittlement and ensure good mechanical properties is emphasized.

Fabrication and characterization of W -Ni nanocomposites via a facile chemical co-precipitation route

Qiuyu Chen et al.

Summary: A novel method combining chemical co-precipitation and hydrogen reduction was proposed to synthesize nanopowders of W-10wt.%Ni in this study. The average grain size of NiW nanopowders was found to be 18-40 nm, and the addition of Ni influenced the diffusion coefficient, leading to variations in the sintering structure. The form of NiW intermetallic compound inhibited the grain growth of nanopowder.

In situ synthesis of core-shell W-Cu nanopowders for fabricating full-densified and fine-grained alloys with dramatically improved performance

Xiaojing Li et al.

Summary: A new one-step thermal plasma synthesis route was developed to construct core-shell W-Cu nanoparticles with size about 30 nm, addressing the issues of homogeneous elemental distribution and short diffusion distance for Cu to form network around W grains. The synthesized nanocomposite powders facilitated fast densification with uniform microstructure and suppressed W grain growth, resulting in a compact with high relative density and hardness.

Effect of Nano Copper on the Densification of Spark Plasma Sintered W-Cu Composites

Vadde Madhur et al.

Summary: In this study, W-Cu composites were fabricated by adding various amounts of nano-copper to tungsten, showing improvements in densification, strength, hardness, and electrical conductivity with increasing copper content. Fractography analysis of tensile tested samples revealed a mixed-mode of fracture, and an increase in nano-copper content resulted in higher electrical conductivity.
