Simple Synthesis of Molybdenum Carbides from Molybdenum Blue Nanoparticles

Natalia Gavrilova et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been considerable interest in developing a new, flexible method for synthesizing molybdenum carbide (Mo2C). This study demonstrated the potential of using nano-size clusters of molybdenum blue in combination with organic reducing agents to produce molybdenum carbide with varying properties. The synthesized samples showed high catalytic activity and specific surface area, making them suitable for dry reforming of methane.

Formation of Molybdenum Blue Nanoparticles in the Organic Reducing Area

Summary: Molybdenum blue dispersions were synthesized by reducing an acidic molybdate solution with glucose, hydroquinone, and ascorbic acid. The study investigated the influence of the H/Mo molar ratio on the rate of formation of molybdenum particles, and confirmed that the dispersed phase consists of toroidal molybdenum oxide nanoclusters.
