The impact of maternal obesity and breast milk inflammation on developmental programming of infant growth

Samantha Enstad et al.

Summary: The study found that higher maternal BMI was associated with higher levels of n-6:n-3 PUFA and leptin in breast milk, and infants exposed to high n-6:n-3 PUFA had higher BMI z-scores. In addition, higher levels of inflammatory cytokines in breast milk were associated with accelerated weight gain in infants.

Big game cervid meat as a potential good source of plasmalogens for functional foods

Thu Huong Pham et al.

Summary: Plasmalogen deficiency is associated with increased risks for diabetes mellitus, cancer, cardiac and respiratory diseases, and more recently Alzheimer's disease. Diet remains one of the most important sources of plasmalogen for humans. Caribou and moose meat/antler have high levels of plasmalogens in their polar lipid composition, indicating they may serve as natural dietary sources of plasmalogens during normal food consumption.

Summary: The study revealed significant changes in phospholipid molecular species composition in human milk during lactation, with variations in phosphatidylcholine, sphingomyelin, and polyunsaturated phospholipids levels at different stages.
