Metabolomic profiling reveals serum L-pyroglutamic acid as a potential diagnostic biomarker for systemic lupus erythematosus

Qiong Zhang et al.

Summary: The metabolic profiles of SLE patients differed from healthy controls, with increased L-pyroglutamic acid showing promise as a potential biomarker for SLE.

Untargeted lipidomics reveals specific lipid abnormalities in Sjogren's syndrome

Summary: The study successfully identified serum biomarkers associated with SS patients through the screening and evaluation of biomarkers, indicating that SS metabolic disturbance might be associated with oxidized lipids, fatty acid oxidation, and energy metabolism.

Oxidative stress-induced aberrant lipid metabolism is an important causal factor for dysfunction of immunocytes from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus

Changfeng Hu et al.

Summary: The close relationships among oxidative stress, dyslipidaemia, inflammation, and autoimmune response in SLE patients contribute to dysfunction and dysregulation of immunocytes. Aberrant lipid metabolism in immunocytes, induced by oxidative stress, may lead to increased production of IgG autoantibodies and cytokines in the early stages of the disease. Treatment with a natural antioxidant can correct the aberrant lipid metabolism and reduce autoimmune reactions, suggesting a potential drug treatment for SLE with fewer adverse effects.

Lipidomics Revealed Aberrant Metabolism of Lipids Including FAHFAs in Renal Tissue in the Progression of Lupus Nephritis in a Murine Model

Changfeng Hu et al.

Summary: The study found that in the development of LN, there were always ectopic fat deposition and abnormal lipid metabolism in the kidneys, related to oxidative stress. Anti-inflammatory FAHFA species in kidney tissues could largely reflect the severity of LN and could be a potential early biomarker. Treatment with GCs could prevent LN progression but worsen lipid metabolism aberrances, especially with long-term use.

LPC-DHA/EPA-Enriched Diets Increase Brain DHA and Modulate Behavior in Mice That Express Human APOE4

Sarah B. Scheinman et al.

Summary: Research suggests that LPC-DHA/EPA-enriched krill oil can increase brain DHA and improve memory-related behavior in mice with the APOE4 gene. Therefore, long-term use of LT-krill oil supplements may provide some level of protection against age-related neurodegeneration.
