Prediction of cardiac arrest in critically ill patients based on bedside vital signs monitoring

Summary: This study developed and validated a real-time, interpretable machine learning model called the Cardiac Arrest Prediction Index (CAPI) to predict cardiac arrest in critically ill patients based on bedside vital signs monitoring. The CAPI accurately predicted 95% of cardiac arrest events on the test set, with 80% identified more than 25 minutes in advance.

Behaviour change approaches for individuals with diabetes to improve foot self-management: a scoping review

Summary: This scoping review identified self-management actions and risky behavior avoidance strategies within interventions to support patients with diabetic foot self-management. The majority of interventions focus on knowledge and skills, but overlook taking action and decision making. Four primary intervention functions (education, persuasion, training and enablement) were used to address deficits in capability, opportunity and motivation that positively improved foot self-management behavior.

Brain Hypoxia Is Associated With Neuroglial Injury in Humans Post-Cardiac Arrest

Summary: The study quantified the impact of secondary brain hypoxia on injury to the neurovascular unit in patients with HIBI. It was found that secondary brain hypoxia is associated with de novo neuroglial injury and cerebral release of IL-6. Mitigating cerebrovascular-to-parenchymal limitations to O-2 transport is a promising therapeutic strategy for patients with HIBI with secondary brain hypoxia.
