Clinical Features of Wheat Allergy Are Significantly Different between Tri a 14 Sensitized Patients and Tri a 19 Sensitized Ones

Elide Anna Pastorello et al.

Summary: Sensitization to Tri a 19 or Tri a 14 results in different clinical manifestations. Sensitization to Tri a 19 is associated with a higher risk of severe reactions, possibly triggered by daily factors, while Tri a 14 sensitization has a higher cross-reactivity with other foods but tends to be more asymptomatic.

Omega-5 and Gamma Gliadin are the Major Allergens in Adult-Onset IgE-Mediated Wheat Allergy: Results from Thai Cohort with Oral Food Challenge

Surapon Piboonpocanun et al.

Summary: This study found that wheat gamma-gliadin and omega-5 gliadin are major wheat allergens among adult-onset wheat allergy patients in Thailand. Component-resolved diagnosis using gamma-gliadin might be helpful in confirming wheat allergy.

Food anaphylaxis in the United Kingdom: analysis of national data, 1998-2018

Alessia Baseggio Conrado et al.

Summary: The study revealed an increase in hospital admissions due to food-induced anaphylaxis in the UK from 1998 to 2018, with the largest increase observed in children under 15. The case fatality rate has decreased, however showing fluctuations, with cow's milk now being the most common single cause of fatal anaphylaxis in school aged children.

Immune-Mediated Mechanisms in Cofactor-Dependent Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis: Effect of Cofactors in Basophils and Mast Cells

Rosa Munoz-Cano et al.

Summary: Cofactors play a crucial role in exacerbating food allergic reactions, including exercise, NSAIDs, and alcohol. These cofactors may enhance allergic reactions by influencing basophils and mast cells activation. Although the mechanisms are not fully understood, exploring these factors could lead to the development of tailored treatments and preventive strategies.

Component-resolved diagnosis in adult patients with food-dependent anaphylaxis

Pawel Dubiela et al.

Summary: This study compared the performance of ImmunoCAP-ISAC with conventional in vitro and in vivo diagnosis in 54 food anaphylactic patients, showing moderate to substantial agreement. The microarray testing demonstrated good sensitivity, particularly in identifying plant food allergens as predominant IgE-binding proteins in adult anaphylactic patients.

Wheat Anaphylaxis in Adults Differs from Reactions to Other Types of Food

Magdalena Kraft et al.

Summary: The study found that wheat is the most common food trigger of anaphylaxis in adults in Central Europe, often associated with cofactors such as exercise. Only 36.9% of patients with wheat anaphylaxis had atopic comorbidities, which is lower than for other food allergies. Wheat-induced anaphylaxis often presents with cardiovascular symptoms, suggesting the need for further research on mechanisms and preventive measures.

Non-specific lipid-transfer proteins: Allergen structure and function, cross-reactivity, sensitization, and epidemiology

Isabel J. Skypala et al.

Summary: Non-specific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTP) are important proteins present in plant species, playing a key role in allergies and reactions to plant foods. Studies have shown that nsLTP have highly conserved structures and can cause allergic reactions to different plant-related foods and non-food sources.
