Metric-Affine Gravity as an effective field theory

A. Baldazzi et al.

Summary: We discuss theories of gravity with independent metric and connection from the perspective of effective field theory. The parity-even Lagrangian terms up to dimension four are considered, and the decomposition of the linearized action on a complete basis of spin projectors is provided. Various subclasses of Metric-Affine Gravity (MAG) theories are explored, and the existence of MAGs whose equations of motion do not have propagating degrees of freedom is pointed out. Furthermore, simple MAGs containing only a massless graviton and states of spin/parity 2(-) or 3(-) are constructed.

The 3+1 formalism in teleparallel and symmetric teleparallel gravity

Salvatore Capozziello et al.

Summary: Teleparallel and symmetric teleparallel gravity provide platforms for expressing gravity in interesting geometric approaches based on torsion and nonmetricity. This work explores a 3+1 decomposition of the teleparallel and symmetric teleparallel equivalents of general relativity, demonstrating the dynamic equivalence to curvature-based general relativity and deriving evolution equations for 3-tetrad and 3-metric. By choosing different connections, the metric 3+1 formulation of general relativity can be recovered, along with alternative formulations such as the tetrad 3+1 formulation of teleparallel equivalent, and metric 3+1 formulation of symmetric teleparallel equivalent. This approach aims to resolve common features in various forms of general relativity at a fundamental level and identify characteristics that extensions and alternatives may present.
