An improved partial similitude method for dynamic characteristic of rotor systems based on Levenberg-Marquardt method

Lei Li et al.

Summary: Similitude theory is widely used in predicting the structural responses of full-size prototypes through scaled models. Partial similitude, more flexible in practical design, needs improvement in accuracy. An improved partial similitude approach is presented in this study to establish scaling laws for rotor systems and to overcome the insufficient accuracy of existing methods in predicting dynamic characteristics. The accuracy and effectiveness of this approach are validated through numerical and experimental case studies, showing higher accuracy than existing methods.

An extended energy balance method for resonance prediction in forced response of systems with non-conservative nonlinearities using damped nonlinear normal mode

Yekai Sun et al.

Summary: The study extends the energy balance method to systems with non-conservative nonlinearities using the concept of damped nonlinear normal modes. This extended method involves a balance between different energy components, and has been successfully tested on both simplified models and full-scale structures to predict resonances efficiently.

Reduced order models for geometrically nonlinear structures: Assessment of implicit condensation in comparison with invariant manifold approach

Yichang Shen et al.

Summary: This study compares two methods for deriving reduced-order models for geometrically nonlinear structures: the ICE method and nonlinear normal modes. The ICE method relies on static loadings to construct a stress manifold, while nonlinear normal modes depend on invariant manifold theory to maintain invariance. In the finite element framework, obtaining all model coefficients for the ICE method is often computationally expensive, and the stress manifold tends to the invariant manifold in specific conditions.

Propagation of friction parameter uncertainties in the nonlinear dynamic response of turbine blades with underplatform dampers

Jie Yuan et al.

Summary: This study aims to obtain uncertainty bands in the dynamic response of turbine blades equipped with dampers by introducing the variability observed in interfacial contact parameters. Sobol indices analysis is used to quantify the influence of contact parameters on the variation in the nonlinear dynamic response.

Comparison of different methodologies for the computation of damped nonlinear normal modes and resonance prediction of systems with non-conservative nonlinearities

Yekai Sun et al.

Summary: The article discusses the issues of damped nonlinear normal modes (dNNMs) in non-conservative nonlinear systems and introduces two concepts, complex nonlinear mode (CNM) and extended periodic motion concept (EPMC), along with their advantages and limitations. It also explores two emerging techniques for predicting resonant solutions using dNNMs: extended energy balance method (E-EBM) and nonlinear modal synthesis (NMS).

Model order reduction methods for geometrically nonlinear structures: a review of nonlinear techniques

Cyril Touze et al.

Summary: This paper reviews nonlinear methods for model order reduction in structures with geometric nonlinearity, with a special focus on techniques based on invariant manifold theory. It first discusses the historical development and specific applications of invariant manifolds, and then addresses the specific case of structures discretised with the finite element method. The paper concludes by detailing recent developments in direct computation of reduced-order models relying on invariant manifolds theory.
