Simple and green synthesis of calcium alginate/hydroxyapatite hybrid material without high temperature treatment and its flame retardancy

Qiying Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, CaAlg/HAP hybrid material was synthesized by the sol-gel method at room temperature to improve the thermal stability and flame retardant properties. The morphologies of HAP particles changed gradually during the reaction, finally forming wrinkled sponge microspheres with a two-dimensional nanostructured surface. The results showed that the thermal stability and flame retardancy of the hybrid material were significantly improved, and the mechanism was proposed as the promotion of decarboxylation of alginate by HAP, leading to carbonization of CaAlg/HAP.

In situ synthesis of pyridinium-based ionic porous organic polymers with hydroxide anions and pyridinyl radicals for halogen-free catalytic fixation of atmospheric CO2

Ke Liu et al.

Summary: Pyridinium-based ionic porous organic polymers (Py-iPOPs) were constructed from newly designed acetonitrile-functionalized ionic liquids and multi-carbaldehyde monomers by base-catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation. The obtained Py-iPOPs are regarded as efficient metal-free and halogen-free heterogeneous catalysts for atmospheric CO2 fixation under mild conditions.

Transesterification of dimethyl carbonate with glycerol by perovskite-based mixed metal oxide nanoparticles for the atom-efficient production of glycerol carbonate

Jitpisut Poolwong et al.

Summary: Catalytic transesterification of glycerol with dimethyl carbonate using perovskites and perovskite-based mixed metal oxides (PBMMOs) was explored in this study. PBMMOs prepared via non-hydrolytic sol gel method exhibited higher surface areas and stronger basic sites compared to those produced by calcination. The most basic PBMMOs (SrTiO3-200, YNbO4-200, BaCeO3-200) showed the highest catalytic activity, with SrTiO3-200 achieving quantitative conversion of glycerol to glycerol carbonate under optimized conditions.

Cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides by highly nucleophilic 4-aminopyridines: establishing a relationship between carbon basicity and catalytic performance by experimental and DFT investigations

Wuttichai Natongchai et al.

Summary: The study discovered that highly nucleophilic 3,4-diaminopyridines can serve as effective catalysts for the cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides, enhancing catalytic activity and promoting crucial reaction steps. Additionally, the research also demonstrated that the nucleophilic scaffold of 3,4-diaminopyridines can be used as a recyclable heterogeneous catalyst supported on polystyrene.
