A disposable modified screen-printed electrode using egg white/ZnO rice structured composite as practical tool electrochemical sensor for formaldehyde detection and its comparative electrochemical study with Chitosan/ZnO nanocomposite

Summary: In this study, a novel egg white/ZnO rice structured composite was successfully synthesized and demonstrated unique electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation-reduction of formaldehyde. The composite showed excellent performance as a sensor for formaldehyde detection, with linear response range, low detection limit, and high sensitivity. The developed sensor was applied for formaldehyde determination in urine samples, showing selectivity, affordability, stability, disposability, simplicity in manufacturing and operation, and potential for practical use in formaldehyde analysis.

Cyanazine herbicide monitoring as a hazardous substance by a DNA nanostructure biosensor

Summary: Pt- and Pd-incorporated ZnO nanoparticles-decorated single-wall carbon nanotubes (Pt-Pd-ZnO/SWCNTs) nanocomposites were used to modify a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the detection of idarubicin. The morphology and structure of the nanocomposite were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The modified electrode, ds-DNA/Pt-Pd-ZnO/SWCNTs/GCE, was fabricated using a layer-by-layer modification technique and used as a voltammetric sensor for sensitive monitoring of idarubicin. The biosensor showed good performance in detecting idarubicin with a detection limit of 0.8 nM.

Paper-based microfluidic colorimetric sensor on a 3D printed support for quantitative detection of nitrite in aquatic environments

Efficient removal of cadmium ions from water by adsorption on a magnetic carbon aerogel

Summary: A magnetic carbon aerogel (MCA) with high specific surface area and excellent sorption properties for Cd(II) ions was successfully synthesized in this study. The MCA removed cadmium ions from water through electrostatic adsorption and complexation, and could be easily separated and recovered due to the presence of Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles. This study provides a promising and efficient technology for removing Cd(II) ions from aqueous solutions.

A non-mercury electrode for the voltammetric determination of butralin in foods

Summary: In this study, a modified electrode with Co-Ag bimetallic nanoparticles stabilized in poly(vinylpyrrolidone) was developed for the quantification of butralin, providing a non-mercury alternative. The electrode was characterized using spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, and optimized experimental parameters led to linear calibration plots for butralin in honey and apple jam samples. The results obtained were validated by UV-vis spectrometry and statistical tests.

Fabrication of the Ni-based composite wires for electrochemical detection of copper(II) ions

Summary: Ni-based composite wires with barrier-driven electrochemical sensing mechanisms were successfully prepared for the direct and facile detection of Cu2+, showing a wide linear range and low LOD. The excellent stability and recovery in real water samples make these composite wires promising candidates for practical application in environmental monitoring. The interfacial barriers of semiconductor can be utilized as a special sensing factor to develop novel sensors.
