An Isolable Magnesium(II)-Radical Dianion Complex

Jinjing Pan et al.

Summary: Magnesium(I) complexes are widely studied as reducing agents in small-molecule activation and organometallic synthesis. Despite successfully isolating a magnesium(I) species in this study, no stable mononuclear magnesium(I) compounds have been identified, with the complex identified as essentially a magnesium(II)-radical dianion complex based on spectroscopic studies and theoretical calculations.

Hydroboration of Terminal Alkenes and trans-1,2-Diboration of Terminal Alkynes Catalyzed by a Manganese(I) Alkyl Complex

Stefan Weber et al.

Summary: The Mn-catalyzed hydroboration of terminal alkenes and the 1,2-diboration of terminal alkynes with pinacolborane have been successfully achieved. The most active pre-catalyst is a bench-stable alkyl bisphosphine Mn-I complex. The catalytic process involves migratory insertion of a CO ligand into the Mn-alkyl bond to yield an acyl intermediate, which further undergoes B-H bond cleavage or C-H bond cleavage for alkenes and alkynes, respectively, forming active Mn-I boryl and acetylide catalysts.

Computational Exploration of Mechanistic Avenues in Metal-Free CO2 Reduction to CO by Disilyne Bisphosphine Adduct and Phosphonium Silaylide

Sayan Dutta et al.

Summary: Recent years have witnessed a growing interest in metal-free CO2 activation by silylenes, silylones, and silanones. Computational investigations were conducted to explore the mechanisms of CO2 reduction by donor-stabilized disilyne bisphosphine adduct (R1(M)) and phosphonium silaylide (R2). Theoretical calculations revealed the crucial role of silicon-centered lone pairs in CO2 activations and the generation of key intermediates with enormous strain in the Si-C-O ring.

Pyridylpyrrolido ligand in Ge(II) and Sn(II) chemistry: synthesis, reactivity and catalytic application

Sanjukta Pahar et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of a new chlorogermylene and the preparation of a series of new germylenes and stannylenes starting from it. The transmetallation reaction between the chlorogermylene and SnCl2 resulted in the formation of a chlorostannylene, showing an unusual example of transmetallation between elements of the same group. The compounds were further characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic studies.

Bright luminescent lithium and magnesium carbene complexes

Piermaria Pinter et al.

Summary: A convenient synthesis of a CNC pincer ligand composed of carbazole and two mesoionic carbenes was reported, along with the corresponding lithium- and magnesium complexes. Tri-deprotonated s-block complexes exhibited bright luminescence with a quantum yield of 16% in solution at ambient temperature. Quantum-chemical calculations rationalized the emissive properties based on an Intra-Ligand-Charge-Transfer (ILCT) mechanism between the carbazolido- and mesoionic carbene ligands.
