Bimetallic platinum/iridium modified mesoporous catalysts applied in the hydrogenation of HMF

Brenda Ledesma et al.

Summary: The study investigated the catalytic transformation of HMF to produce 2,5-DMF over bimetallic (PtIr) and monometallic (Pt) catalysts supported on CMK-3 and SBA-15 mesoporous materials. It was found that PtIr-CMK-3 catalyst exhibited excellent activity, selectivity, and stability in this process, with well-reduced and highly dispersed metallic particles on the surface of supports having large surface area and narrow pore size distribution. The PtIr alloy species catalytic sites were very active and selective towards the formation of 2,5-DMF.

Platinum Island-on-Copper-Nickel Alloy Nanoparticle/Carbon Trimetallic Nanocatalyst for Selective Hydrogenation of Cinnamaldehyde

An Pei et al.

Summary: Two series of catalysts with tuned nanostructures exhibited much more excellent catalytic performance than catalysts with platinum-transition metal alloy structures and transition metal/carbon for the selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde. The Pt-CuNi/C-reduced catalyst also showed superior stability in cinnamaldehyde hydrogenation.

Zeolite-Encaged Isolated Platinum Ions Enable Heterolytic Dihydrogen Activation and Selective Hydrogenations

Xin Deng et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a facile strategy to encapsulate Ptd(+) species within Y zeolite and reveals the unique configuration of Pt@Y model catalyst for selective hydrogenation. The atomically dispersed Pt delta+ stabilized by the surrounding oxygen atoms enables exclusive heterolytic activation of dihydrogen, leading to remarkable performance in selective hydrogenation reactions.

Platinum and cobalt intermetallic nanoparticles confined within MIL-101(Cr) for enhanced selective hydrogenation of the carbonyl bond in α,β-unsaturated aldehydes: synergistic effects of electronically modified Pt sites and Lewis acid sites

Muhammad Zahid et al.

Summary: The study developed a catalyst consisting of Pt-Co intermetallic nanoparticles supported on a MIL-101(Cr) MOF, which showed improved selectivity towards α,β-unsaturated alcohols. The addition of Co to the catalyst promoted Lewis acid sites, facilitating the hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes and enhancing selectivity. The Pt-Co intermetallic nanoparticles played a key role in enhancing the activity and selectivity of the catalyst towards unsaturated alcohols.

Efficient hydrogenation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural using a synergistically bimetallic Ru-Ir/C catalyst

Yinghao Wang et al.

Summary: Activated charcoal-dispersed Ru-Ir alloy nanoparticles, with a size of approximately 2.2 nm, serve as a selective and reusable hydrogenation catalyst for the conversion of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to valuable liquid biofuel, achieving a high yield of 99% to 2,5-dimethylfuran at only 120 degrees C. The synergistic effect between the Ru and Ir species leads to an acceleration in the reduction of substrate and intermediates.
