Taniya Kar et al.

Summary: This study discusses the mechanisms of low salinity waterflooding and finds that oil recovery is higher from high salinity water injection than from low salinity water injection. There is a strong relationship between interface elasticity and oil recovery, while no definitive correlation is found between oil recovery and wettability.

Effect of surface acidity of SiO2 nanoparticles on thermal stability of polymer solutions for application in EOR processes

Esteban A. Taborda et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of surface acidity of silica nanoparticles on the time-dependent thermal degradation of polymer solutions. The results showed that decreasing surface acidity leads to higher polymer uptake and a more resistant polymer network. SiO2B nanoparticles exhibited stronger interactions with HPAM, resulting in a lower viscosity reduction and additional oil recovery in coreflooding tests.

A Theoretical Explanation for Wettability Alteration by Adding Nanoparticles in Oil-Water-Tight Rock Systems

Lin Yuan et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the use of nanoparticles to alter the wettability of siltstone core plugs, showing that the presence of nanoparticles can change the rock from oil-wet to water-wet conditions. The stability of water films with NP solutions is higher, leading to a more stable film compared to tap water and brine cases. The wettability alteration by the NP solution is more pronounced in low-salinity water.

Experimental Investigation of Polymer-Coated Silica Nanoparticles for EOR under Harsh Reservoir Conditions of High Temperature and Salinity

Summary: Laboratory experiments have shown that nanoparticle (NPs) flooding can lead to higher oil recovery rates, mainly through changes in wettability and reduction of interfacial tension. However, gaps still exist in understanding the interactions induced by NPs. This study investigated the performance of four types of polymer-coated silica NPs in harsh reservoir conditions and found that NP aggregation led to decreased core permeability, affecting oil sweep efficiency.
