Photo-assisted degradation of organic pollutant by CuFeS2 powder in RGB-LED reactors: A comprehensive study of band gap values and the relation between wavelength and electron-hole recombination

Yasmin Vieira et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between direct band-gap conversion and excitation wavelength in catalysis efficiency of red, green, and blue (RGB) light-emitting diode (LED) reactors. The emission wavelengths of the RGB-LED reactor's operating modes spectra were obtained using an integrating sphere and spectroradiometer system. The optimal photocatalysis conditions were found to be pH 3, catalyst loading of 0.25 g L-1, 0.25 mmol L-1 of H2O2(aq) (30% v/v) with an initial model pollutant concentration of 75 mg L-1 and reaction time of 60 min. The highest color removal rate was achieved under the higher intensity red mode, while the decolorization efficiency remained higher in the conventional white light mode. Contrary to previous reports, as the dominant wavelength of the irradiation source decreased, the efficiency also tended to decrease. The insights presented in this work provide valuable tools for increasing LED photocatalysis efficiency.

Jia-Yong Song et al.

Summary: A hyperspectral light source based on a light pipe is proposed, which features compact size, uniform illumination, and versatility. By adjusting the deflection angle of off-axis LEDs and employing the flip-n-fold approach, uniform illumination is achieved, with the effectiveness of the system verified experimentally. Additionally, capabilities such as extending the illumination area and simulating wideband spectra are demonstrated.

Efficient charge carrier transfer route induced by Z-scheme CdS/BiOBr heterostructure for enhanced photocatalytic performance

Wenxin Li et al.

Summary: The Z-scheme CdS/BiOBr heterostructure synthesized by hydrothermal method exhibited enhanced photocatalytic performance in degrading Ciprofloxacin (CIP), Rhodamine B (RhB), and Tetracycline (TC) under visible light. The improvement can be attributed to extended visible light absorption and the Z-scheme photo-generated carriers' transfer route.

Design-simulation of light radiation of a novel fixed-bed photocatalytic system with LED arrays on the engineering-outlook

Lina Zhao et al.

Summary: This study established a novel radiation model to guide the development of photochemical reactors. The distribution of light in the water with titanium dioxide nanotubes/Ti (TNTs/Ti) mesh layers was described using the UDF in comsol@5.5 software. The LED arrays radiation model on the reactor's external interface was solved using compiled UDF, and the results were used as boundary conditions for bilateral incidents illumination of the reactor. The distribution results were obtained by solving the radiative transfer equation (RTE) and presented as numerical simulation computing results.
