Bimetallic Zeolite Beta Beads with Hierarchical Porosity as Bronsted-Lewis Solid Acid Catalysts for the Synthesis of Methyl Lactate

Summary: Bimetallic zeolite Beta beads with unique acid properties were prepared and demonstrated excellent catalytic activity in the conversion of dihydroxyacetone to methyl lactate. The beads were modified through dealumination and metal grafting to enhance Lewis acid sites. Furthermore, combining the beads with Au-Pd nanoparticles on functionalized carbon nanotubes resulted in a multifunctional catalytic system for efficient glycerol conversion.
