Anchoring strategy for highly active copper nanoclusters in hydrogenation of renewable biomass-derived compounds

Fujun Lan et al.

Summary: This study presents an efficient strategy for anchoring highly active copper nanocluster catalysts on graphitic carbon nitride and dispersing in mesoporous silica, resulting in high conversion of levulinic acid to γ-valerolactone with excellent stability. The research provides a simple anchoring strategy for constructing highly active and inexpensive copper nanocluster catalysts, which exhibit comparable performance to Ru/AC catalysts but more economically favorable.

Vapor-phase hydrogenation of levulinic acid to ?-valerolactone over Cu-Ni alloy catalysts

Daichi Yanase et al.

Summary: The vapor-phase hydrogenation of levulinic acid to γ-valerolactone was studied over supported-type Cu-Ni/Al2O3 catalysts in H2 flow at 250°C. Ni-rich Cu-Ni/Al2O3 catalysts exhibited high LA conversion with stability and GVL selectivity, but showed gradual deactivation over time. XRD analyses revealed the formation of Cu-Ni alloy nanoparticles on the alumina support, which could sinter and cause catalyst deactivation through oxidation-reduction cycles.

Hydrogenation reactions catalyzed by HN(CH2CH2PR2)2-ligated copper complexes

Dewmi A. Ekanayake et al.

Summary: This study identified a series of copper borohydride complexes capable of catalyzing the hydrogenation of aldehydes, with some catalyst mixtures showing higher efficiency, although certain functional groups may inhibit the reaction. Modifying the catalyst structure can impact its catalytic activity.

Bimetallic NiCu Alloy Catalysts for Hydrogenation of Levulinic Acid

Hong Xu et al.

Summary: This study presents a modified strategy to synthesize highly dispersed noble-metal-free bimetallic NiCu alloy nanoparticles for the selective hydrogenation of levulinic acid, in which the ligand effect between Ni and Cu plays a crucial role. The catalyst with a Ni/Cu ratio of 1:2 exhibited the best catalytic performance, achieving an outstanding yield of 93.9% for gamma-valerolactone.
