High pressure-induced phase transition in nanocrystalline iron confined by single-walled carbon nanohorns

Yanli Nan et al.

Summary: This study examines the high-pressure structural properties of nanocrystalline Fe confined by single-walled carbon nanohorns (SWCNHs) and Fe-filled SWCNHs up to a pressure of 21.8 GPa. The Fe-filled SWCNHs exhibited a reversible transformation from bcc Fe to hcp Fe at 11.7 GPa and reversed to bcc Fe at 6.2 GPa. Fe confined by SWCNHs showed higher compressibility compared to its bulk phases. Fe3O4 did not undergo any phase transformation until 21.8 GPa.

Mingtao Qiao et al.

Summary: This research developed two novel electromagnetic nanocomposites, Fe3O4@void@SiO(2)nanochains and Fe3O4@void@SiO2@PPy nanochains, and found that Fe3O4@void@SiO2@PPy nanochains have stronger absorption capability and broader effective absorption bandwidth than Fe3O4@void@SiO(2)nanochains due to the introduction of polypyrrole shells. With a minimum reflection loss value of -54.2 dB and a maximum effective absorption bandwidth of 5.90 GHz, Fe3O4@void@SiO2@PPy nanochains are promising microwave absorption candidates.
