Durable Cr-substituted (Ba,Cs)1.33(Cr,Ti)8O16 hollandite waste forms with high Cs loading

Mingyang Zhao et al.

Summary: A series of Cr-substituted hollandite solid solution with a broad range of Cs content were investigated. Increasing Cs content induced a phase transition and improved thermodynamic stability. The study also found that the leaching performance of Cr hollandite samples was lower compared to other systems.

Phase Evolution in the CaZrTi2O7-Dy2Ti2O7System: A Potential Host Phase for Minor Actinide Immobilization

Lewis R. Blackburn et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigates the incorporation of Dy3+ in the zirconolite solid solution, revealing different phase structures at varying Dy concentrations. The presence of Dy as Dy3+ in the zirconolite matrix, similar to Am3+, was confirmed. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that the addition of Dy leads to the formation of zirconolite-4M and pyrochlore polytype phases.

Layered ammonium vanadate nanobelt as efficient adsorbents for removal of Sr2+and Cs+ from contaminated water

Heng Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a layered ammonium vanadate nanobelt adsorbent was synthesized and used to remove Sr2+ and Cs+ from water. The main adsorption mechanism was ion exchange, and the adsorption capacity varied with pH. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms data followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir model, respectively.

Characterisation and disposability assessment of multi-waste stream in-container vitrified products for higher activity radioactive waste

Sam A. Walling et al.

Summary: Materials from GeoMelt In-Container Vitrification (ICV)(TM) of simulant UK nuclear wastes were characterized to understand element partitioning within the products. Aqueous durability analysis was conducted to assess potential disposability of the wasteforms. The vitrification trials aimed to immobilize legacy waste streams representative of decommissioning operations in the UK, resulting in vitrified products with comparable or improved durability over a 28 day period.

Investigating hollandite-perovskite composite ceramics as a potential waste form for immobilization of radioactive cesium and strontium

Jiang Ma et al.

Summary: The study proposes the use of a hollandite-perovskite ceramic matrix as a potential host for immobilization of separated Cs and Sr from high-level waste streams, demonstrating excellent chemical durability in experimental testing. The synthesized composite ceramics have shown effective immobilization of Cs and Sr elements, indicating their potential as a customized host matrix for HLW immobilization.
