The impact of Fe2O3 on the dispersion parameters and gamma/fast neutron shielding characteristics of lithium borosilicate glasses

Z. A. Alrowaili et al.

Summary: This study investigates the optical and radiation characteristics of 50.4B(2)O(3) - 30SiO(2) - (19.6 x) Li2O - x Fe2O3 glasses, where x = (0 <= x <= 2 mol%). The structural characteristics of the glasses were determined using XRD. The main objective was to fabricate high density samples by replacing Li2O with Fe2O3 and study their optical and radiation properties. The results showed that the fabricated glasses had higher density and refractive index. As the concentration of Fe2O3 increased, the energy bandgap decreased. The radiation shielding properties were evaluated using Phy-X/PSD, and it was found that G 5 was the best candidate for shielding against gamma radiation.

Influence of F- on the reduction process of Eu3+ to Eu2+ and optical properties of Eu3+/Eu2+-Er3+-Yb3+ co-doped niobate silicate glasses

Ho Kim Dan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influences of F- ions on the reduction of Eu3+ to Eu2+ and the optical properties of Eu3+/Eu2+-Er3+-Yb3+ co-doped niobate silicate glasses. The study shows that the glasses exhibit visible and upconversion emissions under different excitation conditions, and energy transfer is achieved.

Niobate in silicate and phosphate glasses: Effect of glass basicity on crucible dissolution

Natalia A. Wojcik et al.

Summary: Using niobium crucibles for melting glasses with different modifier oxide contents led to varying dissolution rates of niobate, detectable in Raman spectra even at low concentrations. Silica-rich glasses showed minimal Nb dissolution, while higher basicity metasilicate and pyrophosphate glasses exhibited characteristic niobate signatures. The tendency of melts to dissolve Nb crucible was discussed in relation to network connectivity, polymerization, and melt viscosity.

Predicting boron coordination in multicomponent borate and borosilicate glasses using analytical models and machine learning

Xiaonan Lu et al.

Summary: Accurately predicting boron coordination in multicomponent glasses is crucial in glass science and technology, with various models developed to achieve this. Experimental variations in boron coordination present challenges, but machine learning algorithms show potential for slightly better prediction performance, offering valuable insights for future research.

Summary: The study focused on the dielectric response and effect of heat treatment on the properties of a potassium-sodium-niobium-silicate glass with a high niobium content. Heat treatment resulted in the formation of sodium niobate nanocrystals, leading to improved dielectric performance. The crystallization process occurred in two stages, with anisotropic nanocrystals and no new nuclei during crystallization.
