Implementation of a self-consistent slab model of bilayer structure in the SasView suite

The contribution of electrostatics to hydrogen exchange in the unfolded protein state

Using alpha-synuclein as a model, a hybrid mean-field approach effectively computed the electrostatic potential along the protein chain, predicting a fourfold reduction in hydroxide concentration near the C-terminal domain. Experimental protection factors derived from NMR spectroscopy confirm that impeded HX in the C-terminal region of alpha-synuclein is not due to intramolecular hydrogen bonding or structure formation.
