Reviving chloroquine for anti-SARS-CoV-2 treatment with cucurbit[7] uril-based supramolecular formulation

Summary: Research has shown that a supramolecular formulation of chloroquine by the macrocyclic host, cucurbit[7]uril, can decrease chloroquine's toxicity and enhance its antiviral activity against coronaviruses, working synergistically with cucurbit[7]uril. Cucurbit[7]uril alone also exhibits remarkable antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 and other coronaviruses, and significantly improves the antiviral activity of the chloroquine-cucurbit[7]uril formulation, suggesting great potential as a safe and effective antiviral agent.
