Inoculation with plant growth-promoting bacteria alters the rhizosphere functioning of tomato plants

Monica Yorlady Alzate Zuluaga et al.

Summary: Inoculation with plant growth-promoting bacteria significantly increased root and shoot dry biomass of tomato plants, leading to distinct metabolic changes in the rhizosphere, particularly the accumulation of flavonoids and other phenolics. The functional diversity of rhizosphere microbiome differed between plants treated with different PGPB strains, with carbohydrates, carboxylic acids, amino acids, and polymers being the main contributors to these differences.

Successful biocontrol of major postharvest and soil-borne plant pathogenic fungi by antagonistic yeasts

Alicia Fernandez-San Millan et al.

Summary: This study identified yeast strains with antagonistic activity against postharvest pathogens and soilborne diseases, particularly highlighting the potential of Wickerhamomyces anomalus Wa-32 in controlling multiple fungal pathogens. The results also demonstrated the biocontrol effects of other yeast strains in tomatoes, grapes, and apples, showcasing their potential in disease management in various crops.

Rhizospheric bacteria as potential biocontrol agents against Fusarium wilt and crown and root rot diseases in tomato

Md Masudur Rahman Khalil et al.

Summary: The study aimed to discover novel antagonistic bacteria against Fusarium wilt disease and Fusarium crown and root rot of tomatoes. Through a series of screening methods, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus (AcDB3) and several species of the genus Bacillus were identified as promising antagonists for pathogen control.
