Effects of ground-motion sequences on fragility and vulnerability of case-study reinforced concrete frames

Karim Aljawhari et al.

Summary: This study examines the effects of ground-motion sequences on the fragility and vulnerability of RC moment-resisting frames. Results show the importance of considering damage accumulation in pre-code frames and the positive contribution of infills to the seismic performance of both frame types. Vector-valued vulnerability relationships are presented in the form of mean vulnerability surfaces, accounting for the damaging effect of two ground-motion records.

Hysteretic energy-based state-dependent fragility for ground-motion sequences

Roberto Gentile et al.

Summary: A framework for deriving state-dependent fragility relationships of structures under seismic sequences is proposed, using hysteretic energy as the main demand parameter. The relationship between hysteretic energy and peak deformation is discussed, showing the impact of ground motion duration and peak displacement on energy dissipation. The framework is demonstrated on 14 reinforced concrete buildings, showing feasibility in capturing damage accumulation and providing consistent statistical models.

Generalized ground motion prediction model using hybrid recurrent neural network

Jawad Fayaz et al.

Summary: A generalized ground motion prediction model (GGMPM) using a hybrid recurrent neural network (RNN) framework is proposed to estimate a correlated vector of intensity measures and incorporate high order dependencies. The framework minimizes discrepancies with recorded motions using the covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA-ES). The model improves predictions and maintains internal dependencies of the components, offering a more accurate and efficient approach to seismic hazard analysis.

Evaluation of simulated ground motions using probabilistic seismic demand analysis: CyberShake (ver. 15.12) simulations for Ordinary Standard Bridges

Jawad Fayaz et al.

Summary: This study focuses on validating simulated ground motions for bridge engineering applications in southern California. The analysis shows that CyberShake simulates shorter return period motions similar to empirical data, but discrepancies exist for longer return periods. Validation efforts should include comparisons of the relations between IM levels and EDPs.
