Assessment of optimal ground motion intensity measure for high-speed railway girder bridge (HRGB) based on spectral acceleration

Zhangliang Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the optimal ground motion intensity measure for high-speed railway girder bridges (HRGBs). Modal analysis reveals that the contribution of high-order modes cannot be ignored. A new intensity measure, S*, is proposed and found to be more feasible, efficient, and sufficient through probabilistic seismic demand analysis. An attenuation relationship based on S* is also proposed.

Seismic vulnerability assessment of tall pier bridges under mainshock-aftershock-like earthquake sequences using vector-valued intensity measure

Xu Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the seismic fragility and financial losses of tall pier bridges subjected to mainshock-aftershock (MA) sequences. The results show that while the mainshocks have a more substantial impact, neglecting the aftershocks underestimates the failure probability and financial loss of the bridge.

A Novel Structure-Pulse Coupled Model for Quantifying the Column Ductility Demand under Pulse-Like GMs

Jian Zhong et al.

Summary: A novel structural-pulse coupling model is proposed to investigate the impact of pulse period and peak pulse velocity on structural demands under pulse-like ground motions. The Gaussian function is used to describe the column ductility demand curve, revealing significant influence of V-p on the curve's height and positioning. The model accurately predicts seismic demands under pulse-like ground motions and identifies response regularity, such as the shift in peak center position with increasing V-p.

Huihui Dong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the ductility demand of self-centering structures under near-fault pulse-like ground motions, establishing a predictive model for evaluation. The results show that the variation trends of ductility demand spectra are closely related to the spectral regions of the ground motion.

Uncoupled multivariate power models for estimating performance-based seismic damage states of column curvature ductility

Jian Zhong et al.

Summary: The study introduces an uncoupled multivariate power model (UCMV-PM) for estimating the curvature ductility of four damage states of column sections, considering the effects of four factors. By proposing a simplified parametric calculation procedure, a large sample data set is quickly established, demonstrating high accuracy, strong practicability, and wide coverage.

Residual drift spectra for RC bridge columns subjected to near-fault earthquakes

S. M. Seyed Ardakani et al.

Summary: Engineers need to estimate expected residual drift during the design stage to ensure the seismic performance of bridges is adequate. The most direct method is nonlinear response history analysis, but there is also an attractive indirect method of generating estimated residual displacement spectra.

Multiple tuned inerter-based dampers for seismic response mitigation of continuous girder bridges

Ruijun Liang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on using multiple TIBDs to enhance the seismic performance of continuous girder bridges, with an emphasis on optimizing the frequency ratio and damping ratio of the bridges. Results show that TIBDs can effectively improve the seismic performance of long-span HSR continuous girder bridges, but viscous dampers demonstrate better vibration mitigation on seismic responses with large inertance ratio in the transverse direction.
