Chemistry and human exposure implications of secondary organic aerosol production from indoor terpene ozonolysis

Colleen Marciel F. Rosales et al.

Summary: Surface cleaning with commercial disinfectants can generate secondary indoor pollutants in gas and aerosol phases, affecting indoor air quality and health. Cleaning can increase indoor monoterpene concentrations, enhancing ozone reactions under low ozone levels. High concentrations of sub-10-nm particles during cleaning can result in respiratory tract dose rates comparable to or exceeding those of vehicle-associated aerosols.

Real-time characterization of aerosol particle composition, sources and influences of increased ventilation and humidity in an office

Junyao Li et al.

Summary: Indoor exposure to atmospheric pollutants mainly originates from outdoor sources, with air filtration playing a key role. Higher outdoor PM concentrations and increased natural ventilation lead to elevated indoor PM exposure, which is prolonged when outdoor PM is reduced. Changing humidity levels indoors can also impact indoor PM concentrations, particularly for more oxidized secondary organic aerosols.

Office Indoor PM and BC Level in Lithuania: The Role of a Long-Range Smoke Transport Event

Julija Pauraite et al.

Summary: The study observed the impact of climate change on wildfires and resulting air pollution, as well as the performance of indoor air filtering systems under intensive smoke conditions. The research found that during smoke events, both indoor and outdoor eBC mass concentrations increased, with air filtering efficiency highly dependent on particle size.
