Palyno-anatomical characters and their systematic significance in the family Apiaceae from Chitral, eastern Hindu Kush, Pakistan

Maimoona Birjees et al.

Summary: This study aimed to provide a scientific basis by examining the leaf epidermal anatomy and pollen micromorphological features of selected species of family Apiaceae from the eastern Hindu Kush region. The results revealed different types of pollen morphology and leaf epidermal cell structures, which can be useful in the classification of species within this family.

Pollen morphology and its taxonomic potential in some selected taxa of Caesalpiniaceae observed under light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy

Farhat Ullah et al.

Summary: The study on pollen micromorphology of selected taxa from the subfamily Caesalpiniaceae in different geographical regions of Pakistan revealed significant variations in equatorial shape, surface ornamentation, tectum, polar diameter, equatorial diameter, and exine thickness, highlighting the importance of pollen traits in species identification and classification.

Summary: This research analyzed the pollen morphology of species in the order Apiales, constructing a taxonomic key based on key characters showing strong phylogenetic signals. Despite significant overlap, the observed traits can still guide species identification and evolutionary relationships among different subfamilies.

Using carrot centromeric repeats to study karyotype relationships in the genus Daucus (Apiaceae)

Dariusz Kadluczka et al.

Summary: The study revealed the presence of CentDc repeats in the genomes of 26 Daucus species belonging to both Daucus I and II subclades, as well as in one closely related outgroup species. The number of chromosome pairs with CentDc signals varied among different Daucus taxa, but the centromeric localization was conserved. Detailed chromosome measurements in 16 accessions provided insights into the intra- and interspecific karyological relationships among them.

Morphology of pollen in Ferula genus (Apiaceae)

Birol Baser et al.

Summary: The study of pollen morphology of all Ferula species in Turkey reveals that the pollen characteristics are consistent and valuable for classification. Different types of exine ornamentations were observed on pollen surfaces using scanning electron microscopy. Variables like P, E, P/E ratio, and ornamentation are crucial for discriminating Ferula species.

Diversity and Cytogenomic Characterization of Wild Carrots in the Macaronesian Islands

Guilherme Roxo et al.

Summary: The Macaronesian islands are a reservoir of genetic variation of wild carrots, with larger genomes generally found in mainland regions and smaller genomes in insular endemic taxa. Positive correlations were found between genome size and morphological traits and habit, supporting the close relationship among endemic species. This study improves understanding of DNA content for Macaronesian endemics and diversity patterns of wild carrots in the western Mediterranean region.

Polystichum setiferum at the Northeastern Limit of Its Distribution Range

Dariusz Tlalka et al.

Summary: During field studies in 2019 in the Beskid Slaski mountain range in southern Poland, an individual morphologically resembling Polystichum setiferum was discovered, with species identity confirmed through nuclear DNA analysis. The new stand of P. setiferum corresponds to historical literature reports and herbarium specimens from the Czech Republic and Poland, extending the northeastern limit of the species distribution. The newly discovered stand, located nearly 500 km away from the nearest extant locations of P. setiferum, deserves special attention and protection due to its isolated nature.
