Comparison between movement pattern training and strengthening on muscle volume, muscle fat, and strength in patients with hip-related groin pain: An exploratory analysis

Kristen Koch et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of movement pattern training and standard strength and flexibility training on muscle volume, strength, and fatty infiltration in patients with hip-related groin pain. Both training programs showed improvements in hip abductor strength and reductions in fatty infiltration in the gluteal musculature, with the standard training group demonstrating a significant increase in gluteus medius muscle volume. Further research is needed to better understand the impact of exercise on muscle structure and function in hip-related groin pain.

Incidence of tensor fascia lata muscle atrophy after using the modified Watson-Jones anterolateral approach in total hip arthroplasty

Ryohei Takada et al.

Summary: In this study, a low incidence of TFL atrophy was found after THA using the modified Watson-Jones approach. High BMI may be a risk factor for nerve injury, and direct injury to the gluteus minimus during surgery was also observed. It is recommended to avoid overexposure of the surgical site, especially in patients with high BMI.

The Muscle Morphology of Elite Sprint Running

Robert Miller et al.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in muscle volumes and strength between male elite sprinters, sub-elite sprinters, and untrained controls. The findings suggest that greater hip extensor and gluteus maximus volumes discriminate between elite and sub-elite sprinters and are strongly associated with sprinting performance. The study also found that isometric strength of some muscle groups did not have a significant impact on sprint performance.

External fixator combined with three different fixation methods of fibula for treatment of extra-articular open fractures of distal tibia and fibula: a retrospective study

Dong-Dong Sun et al.

Summary: The study compared the efficacy of three different fixation methods for the treatment of extra-articular open fractures of distal tibia and fibula, and found that external fixator combined with Kirschner wire intramedullary fixation shortened operative time and fracture healing time, reduced costs and complications of fracture healing. However, there were no differences in blood loss, infection complications, and ankle function recovery compared with the other two groups.

Volume of Gluteus Maximus and Minimus Increases After Hip Arthroscopy for Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome

Fan Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the changes in muscle volume around the hip in patients with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) after arthroscopy. It was found that postoperatively, patients with FAI showed significantly increased muscle CSA of the gluteus maximus and gluteus minimus, which were correlated with improvements in modified Harris Hip Score and pain Visual Analog Scale. The increase in muscle volume may be associated with improved subjective function and pain relief.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between gluteus maximus (GMAX) fat infiltration and different levels of physical activity. The results indicated that hip pain, low physical activity, female gender, and high BMI were significant predictors of increased GMAX fat infiltration.
