Examining social determinants in use of assistive technology for race/ethnic groups of older adults

Keith Tsz-Kit Chan et al.

Summary: This study examined the differences in assistive technology (AT) use among older adults of different races and ethnicities in the United States. The results showed significant variations in AT use among minority older adults, with African American older adults having the highest percentage of AT use and Asian older adults having the lowest. Having health insurance was found to be significantly associated with higher AT use among non-White Hispanics and non-Hispanic Whites, but not among African Americans and Asians.

A Systematic Review of the Incidence, Prevalence, Costs, and Activity and Work Limitations of Amputation, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Back Pain, Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke, and Traumatic Brain Injury in the United States: A 2019 Update

Jessica Lo et al.

Summary: Back pain and osteoarthritis are the most prevalent and costly conditions, contributing significantly to all-cause medical costs. Other conditions, although with lower prevalence or cost, have relatively higher per capita costs and impact on activity and work. The data is heterogeneous, making detailed comparisons challenging and further information necessary to determine the relative impact of each condition.

The Experiences of Functioning and Health of Patients With Primary Sjogren's Syndrome: A Multicenter Qualitative European Study

Julia Unger et al.

Summary: Patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) from five European countries share common perspectives on functioning and health, with most concepts related to activities and participation, as well as body structures and functions. Some concepts mentioned by the patients are not covered by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Patients reported limitations in daily life due to mismatch between their capabilities, environmental demands, and activity requirements. The concepts identified may guide the development of patient-reported outcome measures and improve treatment options for patients with pSS in clinical practice.

Residual Pain in the Context of Selecting and Switching Biologic Therapy in Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases

Florian Berghea et al.

Summary: Treatment of inflammatory rheumatic diseases has advanced with the introduction of biologic Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs (bDMARDs), leading to a shift away from defining conditions based on joint and spine deformities. However, there remain unmet clinical needs, such as residual pain in patients in biological remission.
