Prevalence, Characteristics, and Associated Risk Factors of the Elderly with Hip Fractures: A Cross-Sectional Analysis of NHANES 2005-2010

Yuan-Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence, characteristics, and risk factors of hip fractures in non-institutionalized elderly in the United States. The results showed an increasing trend in hip fractures among the elderly, with higher prevalence in females. Age (especially 80 years and older), race (mainly Non-Hispanic white), smoking, drinking alcohol, living alone, combined with diabetes and osteoporosis were identified as potential risk factors for hip fractures in the elderly.

Metabolomic Profiles of Men and Women Ischemic Stroke Patients

Nicolas Poupore et al.

Summary: Using metabolomics analysis, this study identified multiple metabolic pathways and metabolites associated with male and female AIS patients. Female AIS patients had 14 distinct altered metabolic pathways and 49 corresponding metabolites, while male patients had 39 metabolites and 5 metabolic pathways. Further research is needed to understand how these metabolites are linked to the pathophysiology in male and female AIS patients.

Interleukin-6: A Novel Target for Cardio-Cerebrovascular Diseases

Jian-Hui Su et al.

Summary: Cardio-Cerebrovascular Disease, a combination of cardiovascular disease and cerebrovascular disease, is a serious threat to human health. Studies have shown that inflammatory factors such as Interleukin-6 play a crucial role in vascular plaque stability, incidence of events, and diseases like atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, etc. Targeting interleukin-6 may provide a potential strategy for the prevention and treatment of Cardio-Cerebrovascular Diseases.
