Blood-gas vs. Central-Laboratory analyzers: interchangeability and reference intervals for sodium, potassium, glucose, lactate and hemoglobin

Kocijancic Marija et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the interchangeability of potassium, sodium, glucose, lactate, and total hemoglobin measurements between Blood-Gas Analyzers (BGAs) and central laboratory analyzers (CLAs). The results showed significant differences between BGAs and CLAs for all analytes except sodium, meeting interchangeability criteria for potassium, sodium, glucose, and lactate. Indirect reference intervals estimated with the Reference Limit Estimator (RLE) were comparable between the two systems for sodium, potassium, glucose, and total hemoglobin.

Expanding the Scope of Non-invasive Prenatal Testing to Detect Fetal Chromosomal Copy Number Variations

Songchang Chen et al.

Summary: Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) is effective for common fetal trisomies, but the usefulness of cell-free DNA testing for other chromosomal abnormalities is not well understood. Increasing the read depth in next-generation sequencing (NGS) improves positive CNV detection rates and reduces false positives, potentially making NIPT by NGS an accurate method for analyzing fetal chromosomes and reducing birth defects.
