Introducing multi-component cardiovascular health screening into existing Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening programmes in the UK: a qualitative study of programme staff views (vol 22, 569, 2022)

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases have a significant impact on health in the UK, particularly in terms of mortality. Peripheral arterial disease and high blood pressure are markers of high cardiovascular disease risk, but are currently underdiagnosed and undertreated. The National Health Service abdominal aortic aneurysm screening programme offers an opportunity to screen for these conditions with minimal additional effort or cost. However, staff concerns about practicalities and resource availability need to be considered when introducing additional screening.
