Emerging therapeutic targets for cardiac hypertrophy

Alexander J. Winkle et al.

Summary: Cardiac hypertrophy is associated with adverse outcomes in cardiovascular diseases. The link between pathophysiological stress stimuli and specific myocyte/heart growth profiles remains unclear. This review discusses the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiac hypertrophy and highlights the role of spectrin-based cytoskeleton in regulating myocyte dimensions. Opportunities for directing myocyte growth in response to hypertrophic stimuli as a therapeutic approach are also discussed.

The role and molecular mechanism of epigenetics in cardiac hypertrophy

Hao Lei et al.

Summary: Cardiac hypertrophy is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease, with epigenetic mechanisms playing an important role and offering therapeutic potential. Research indicates that both embryonic and functional genes are regulated by epigenetic mechanisms during cardiac hypertrophy, potentially serving as therapeutic targets.

COL5A2 as a potential clinical biomarker for gastric cancer and renal metastasis

Yun-Long Ding et al.

Summary: The study suggests that the expression level of the COL5A2 gene may be a risk factor for gastric cancer and has a strong correlation with the disease prognosis. In prognostic evaluation, COL5A2 as a biomarker for gastric cancer has more advantages compared to other collagens.

COL5A2 Promotes Proliferation and Invasion in Prostate Cancer and Is One of Seven Gleason-Related Genes That Predict Recurrence-Free Survival

Xiaohan Ren et al.

Summary: Extensive research has shown the importance of Gleason grading system in predicting the progression of prostate cancer (PCa). This study aimed to identify Gleason-related genes for guiding PCa therapy. The study successfully established a predictive model for recurrence-free survival based on seven Gleason-related genes, with COL5A2 identified as a potential target for immunotherapy in PCa.

TGFβ2 and TGFβ3 isoforms drive fibrotic disease pathogenesis

Tianhe Sun et al.

Summary: Research suggests that TGF beta 2 and TGF beta 3 may play a pathological role in fibrosis by showing increased expression in fibrotic tissues. Experimental evidence also confirms their independent involvement in mouse fibrosis models, with selective inhibition of TGF beta 2 and TGF beta 3 not leading to increased inflammation.

Cardiac Fibrosis and Fibroblasts

Hitoshi Kurose

Summary: Cardiac fibrosis is caused by excess deposition of extracellular matrix, particularly collagen. While appropriate collagen production is beneficial for heart integrity, excessive deposition can lead to cardiac dysfunction. Recent research has shown that myofibroblasts not only produce ECM, but also have functions similar to macrophages.
