Summary: This study verifies the utility of international online datasets in benchmarking and monitoring treatment and outcomes in major oncologic procedures. It utilizes the Esodata database to update contemporary outcomes and monitor trends in practice. The results show an increase in the use of minimally invasive approaches for esophagectomy, a high percentage of complications, improvements in pneumonia and key quality metrics, but with an anastomotic leak rate still above 10%.
