An Efficient and Easy-to-Use Network-Based Integrative Method of Multi-Omics Data for Cancer Genes Discovery

Ting Wei et al.

Summary: MinNetRank is a novel method for prioritizing cancer genes by considering mutation types weights and network interactions, which outperforms other methods in accuracy and robustness on six cancer datasets. It efficiently discovers novel driver genes associated with liver hepatocellular carcinoma and other cancer types.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Identifying driver genes for individual patients through inductive matrix completion

Tong Zhang et al.

Summary: The research team developed a novel approach, IMCDriver, to promote the identification of driver genes for individual patients by considering the functional similarity between known driver genes and genes in question. Results showed that IMCDriver outperforms other existing methods in driver gene identification, even for rarely mutated driver genes.

KEGG: integrating viruses and cellular organisms

Minoru Kanehisa et al.

Summary: KEGG is a curated resource integrating eighteen databases categorized into systems, genomic, chemical and health information, providing mapping tools for understanding cellular and organism-level functions from genome sequences and other molecular datasets. The network variation maps in the KEGG database show how different pathogens and environmental factors influence cellular signaling pathways.
