Engineered gold/black phosphorus nanoplatforms with remodeling tumor microenvironment for sonoactivated catalytic tumor theranostics

Ting Chen et al.

Summary: "Translation: The article introduces a new nanoplatform for sonodynamic therapy that uses ultrasound to induce the production of reactive oxygen species. The nanoplatform, Au/BP@MS, shows an increase in the efficiency of reactive oxygen species generation in tumor tissues, leading to significant inhibition of tumor growth. Furthermore, the nanoplatform exhibits responsiveness and degradability in the tumor microenvironment, enhancing its potential for clinical theranostics."

Renal-Clearable Nickel-Doped Carbon Dots with Boosted Photothermal Conversion Efficiency for Multimodal Imaging-Guided Cancer Therapy in the Second Near-Infrared Biowindow

Boshi Tian et al.

Summary: Photothermal agents with absorption in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) biowindow have attracted attention for photothermal therapy due to deeper tissue penetration. Nickel and nitrogen co-doped carbon dots prepared in this study show significant absorption in NIR-II region, high photothermal conversion efficiency, and can be used for multimodal imaging-guided PTT with low long-term biotoxicity.

CRISPR/Cas9-2D Silicene Gene-Editing Nanosystem for Remote NIR-II-Induced Tumor Microenvironment Reprogramming and Augmented Photonic Tumor Ablation

Haohao Yin et al.

Summary: This study successfully addressed the issue of reduced efficacy in photothermal ablation due to upregulation of TXNDC5 gene expression following PTT by constructing a NIR-II light-controlled CRISPR/Cas9 nanosystem based on silicene. The system enabled remote reprogramming of the tumor microenvironment, enhancing photonic tumor ablation effect and significantly improving gene editing efficiency. This approach not only offers a solution to the challenges in photothermal tumor therapy, but also demonstrates the wide biomedical application potential of 2D silicene nanosheets.

A Borondifluoride-Complex-Based Photothermal Agent with an 80 % Photothermal Conversion Efficiency for Photothermal Therapy in the NIR-II Window

Zhiyong Jiang et al.

Summary: By enhancing the donor-acceptor conjugation and increasing intramolecular motions, NIR-II absorbing SOPTAs with high photothermal performance can be achieved. BAF4, a BF2 complex designed and synthesized based on this strategy, exhibits intense absorption at 1000 nm and high photothermal conversion efficiency under 1064 nm laser irradiation, showing great potential for photothermal therapy in the NIR-II window.
