Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized UsingCarica papayaLeaf Extract (AgNPs-PLE) Causes Cell Cycle Arrest and Apoptosis in Human Prostate (DU145) Cancer Cells

Surya P. Singh et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the anti-cancer properties of silver nanoparticles synthesized with papaya leaf extract, showing better efficacy against cancer cells and lower toxicity to normal cells compared to other drugs. The nanoparticles induced cell growth inhibition, cell cycle arrest, ROS production, and apoptosis in cancer cells through regulation of various proteins involved in cell cycle and apoptosis.

Apoptotic Effect and Anticancer Activity of Biosynthesized Silver Nanoparticles from Marine AlgaeChaetomorpha linumExtract Against Human Colon Cancer Cell HCT-116

Diptikanta Acharya et al.

Summary: The study investigated the anticancer potential of silver nanoparticles synthesized from marine algae against colon cancer cells. The nanoparticles demonstrated dose-dependent cytotoxic effects on colorectal carcinoma cells and induced apoptosis through upregulation of pro-apoptotic proteins and downregulation of anti-apoptotic proteins. This biosynthesized silver nanoparticles were shown to be an efficient anticancer agent in inducing apoptosis in colon cancer cells.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using plant extracts and their antimicrobial activities: a review of recent literature

Chhangte Vanlalveni et al.

Summary: The synthesis of metal nanoparticles using plant extracts is a simple, convenient, economical, and environmentally friendly method that reduces the use of toxic chemicals. This review summarizes the new findings in the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using different plant extracts and discusses the potential influence of phytochemicals, extraction conditions, and reaction parameters on the properties and antimicrobial activities of the produced AgNPs. Additionally, the mechanism of interaction between AgNPs and microbial cell walls leading to cell death, as well as the enhanced antimicrobial activities achieved through synergistic interaction with commercial antibiotics, are comprehensively detailed.
