Over-projected Pacific warming and extreme El Nino frequency due to CMIP5 common biases

Tao Tang et al.

Summary: Research suggests that systematic biases in models simulating tropical climate change over the past century may reduce the reliability of projected changes in Pacific sea surface temperature and extreme El Nino frequency. After removing common biases, the projected Pacific SST change shows a 'La Nina-like' trend, indicating that the extreme El Nino frequency is likely to remain mostly unchanged under CMIP5 warming scenarios.
