The TESS-Keck Survey. VIII. Confirmation of a Transiting Giant Planet on an Eccentric 261 Day Orbit with the Automated Planet Finder Telescope*

Paul A. Dalba et al.

Summary: We report the discovery of TOI-2180 b, a 2.8 M (J) giant planet orbiting a slightly evolved G5 host star. The radial velocity observations refined the orbital period of TOI-2180 b and revealed its orbital eccentricity, as well as the presence of a more distant massive companion. Citizen scientists played a crucial role in identifying the transit event and initiating further observations.

Uncovering the true periods of the young sub-Neptunes orbiting TOI-2076

H. P. Osborn et al.

Summary: This study reveals the true orbits of the two long-period planets in the TOI-2076 system through precise photometry. The observations also suggest that these three planets have inflated radii and low insolation, making them excellent candidates for future comparative transmission spectroscopy with JWST.

TIC-320687387 B: a long-period eclipsing M-dwarf close to the hydrogen burning limit

Summary: Researchers are using data from CORALIE and NGTS to study a single-transit event on star TIC-320687387 detected by TESS. The companion, TIC-320687387 B, was found to be a very low-mass star with a high eccentricity orbit and long orbital period, providing valuable insights for testing stellar evolution models and calculating accurate masses and radii for exoplanets.

Evidence of three mechanisms explaining the radius anomaly of hot Jupiters

P. Sarkis et al.

Summary: This study approaches the radius anomaly problem in hot Jupiters by inferring the internal luminosity distribution and studying its effects on the interior structure. The research finds that hot Jupiters tend to have high internal luminosity and suggests that different heating mechanisms can explain various aspects of the observations.

A. G. A. Brown et al.

Summary: Gaia EDR3 is the early installment of the third data release from the Gaia project, providing astrometry and photometry for 1.8 billion sources brighter than magnitude 21, along with radial velocities from Gaia DR2. The data processing precision and homogeneity have significantly improved compared to the previous version, with additional information on celestial bodies and an updated celestial reference frame.

Evidence for disequilibrium chemistry from vertical mixing in hot Jupiter atmospheres: A comprehensive survey of transiting close-in gas giant exoplanets with warm-Spitzer/IRAC

Claire Baxter et al.

Summary: This large atmospheric study of gas giant exoplanets using infrared transmission photometry with Spitzer/IRAC reveals significant differences in atmospheric properties between different temperature planets. The cooler planets show a lack of methane while the hotter planets exhibit methane in their upper atmospheres. Additionally, mid-temperate and ultra-hot planets show a significant scatter in their transmission signatures, indicating increased atmospheric diversity without higher metallicities.

NGTS 15b, 16b, 17b, and 18b: four hot Jupiters from the Next-Generation Transit Survey

Rosanna H. Tilbrook et al.

Summary: The study reports the discovery of four new Hot Jupiters with NGTS, finding them to be potentially inflated but with underlying mechanisms poorly understood. Analysis suggests that including additional hyperparameters and an updated catalogue of Hot Jupiters could refine inflationary models, advancing understanding of the physical processes that lead to inflated planets.

Parallax Systematics and Photocenter Motions of Benchmark Eclipsing Binaries in Gaia EDR3

Keivan G. Stassun et al.

Summary: Analyses of parallaxes observed by the Gaia satellite have shown significant improvements in systematics over time, with global systematics in parallaxes no longer statistically significant for a sample of benchmark eclipsing binaries. The Renormalized Unit Weight Error (RUWE) statistic is highly sensitive to unresolved companions and photocenter motion of binaries, suggesting that slightly elevated RUWE values may indicate unresolved binaries and can predict photocenter motion accurately.

Revisiting migration in a disc cavity to explain the high eccentricities of warm Jupiters

Florian Debras et al.

Summary: This paper revisits a simple explanation for the high eccentricities of warm Jupiters by proposing migration inside a cavity in the protoplanetary disc. Numerical simulations show that this scenario can lead to an increase in eccentricity up to around 0.4, comparable to the median eccentricity of warm Saturn- to Jupiter-mass exoplanets. This mechanism could have significant implications on disc lifetime and inner disc dispersal, which may be constrained by the eccentricity distribution of gas giants.
