Gaia Data Release 3 Analysis of the Gaia BP/RP spectra using the General Stellar Parameterizer from Photometry

R. Andrae et al.

Summary: GSP-Phot is a part of the third Gaia data release, which provides a homogeneous catalogue of stellar parameters for billions of stars based on parameters such as magnitude, spectra, and parallax. The data release includes results for 471 million sources, including effective temperature, surface gravity, metallicity, absolute magnitude, radius, distance, and extinction for each star. GSP-Phot uses a Bayesian forward-modelling approach to simultaneously fit the spectra, parallax, and apparent magnitude of the stars.

Rossby numbers and stiffness values inferred from gravity-mode asteroseismology of rotating F- and B-type dwarfs Consequences for mixing, transport, magnetism, and convective penetration

C. Aerts et al.

Summary: This study provides asteroseismic calibrations to determine various parameters of intermediate-mass stars, including wave and convective Rossby numbers, as well as the stiffness at the interface between the convective core and radiative envelope. The researchers deduced these quantities for rotating dwarfs based on observed properties of their identified gravity and gravito-inertial modes. The findings offer insights for realistic (magneto-)hydrodynamical simulations of rotating core convection in dwarfs, guiding future modeling of transport and mixing processes in stellar interiors.

Asteroseismology of luminous red giants with Kepler - II. Dependence of mass-loss on pulsations and radiation

Jie Yu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the relationships between mass-loss, pulsations, and radiation in red giants, revealing that mass-loss rates are controlled by pulsation-enhanced dust-driven outflows, and vary with pulsation periods and luminosities of red giants, with mass-loss rates in Miras independent of luminosity. This indicates that mass-loss is not currently a limiting factor for stellar age estimates in galactic archaeology studies.

Summary: High-precision brightness measurements collected over years using telescopes in space have enabled astronomers to study the physics of stellar interiors through nonradial oscillations. The field of asteroseismology has provided new insights into how stars rotate and evolve chemically. Data-driven space asteroseismology has significantly improved computer models of star evolution, which are crucial for various research fields in space science and have potential applications in the search for extraterrestrial life and studies of supernova progenitors.

Estimating Distances from Parallaxes. V. Geometric and Photogeometric Distances to 1.47 Billion Stars in Gaia Early Data Release 3

C. A. L. Bailer-Jones et al.

Summary: Stellar distances are essential in astrophysics, and the publication of 1.47 billion stellar parallaxes from Gaia significantly contributes to this field. Despite challenges with faint or distant stars, a probabilistic approach using a three-dimensional model of the Galaxy has been developed to estimate geometric and photogeometric distances. Photogeometric estimates generally show higher accuracy and precision compared to geometric distances, especially for stars with poor parallaxes, and are provided in a publicly available catalog.

The effect of the centrifugal acceleration on period spacings of gravito-inertial modes in intermediate-mass stars

J. Henneco et al.

Summary: This study examines the effect of centrifugal acceleration on g modes and evaluates its detectability in space-based photometric observations. By implementing a new theoretical framework, the centrifugal deformation of pre-computed 1D spherical stellar structure models was calculated, and the corresponding g-mode frequencies were computed assuming uniform rotation. The results show that the centrifugal acceleration modifies the effect of the Coriolis acceleration on g modes and causes changes in pulsation periods and period spacings, which are detectable in modern space photometry and can improve asteroseismic modeling of centrifugally deformed stars.

Variability of newly identified B-type stars observed by Kepler

Wojciech Szewczuk et al.

Summary: Recent re-determination of stellar atmospheric parameters during the Kepler mission has led to the discovery of more Kepler B-type stars. These stars exhibit pulsational variability, with high-order g modes being dominant and some low-order p/g modes also present. Patterns in the oscillation spectra associated with period spacings resulting from the asymptotic nature of the detected pulsational modes have been identified. The observed oscillation characteristics have been tentatively compared to predictions from linear non-adiabatic computations of stellar pulsations, with the effects of rotation on frequency values and mode instability considered for high-order g modes using the traditional approximation.

Internal mixing of rotating stars inferred from dipole gravity modes

May G. Pedersen et al.

Summary: Observations of 26 rotating stars with masses between 3 and 10 solar masses reveal a wide range of internal mixing levels, with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles showing the best asteroseismic performance. This study provides observational guidance for three-dimensional hydrodynamical simulations of transport processes in the deep interiors of stars, based on gravity modes probing the stars' deep interiors near the convective core. The internal mixing levels in the analyzed stars are unexpectedly varied and are best reproduced with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles.
