The Influence of 10 Unique Chemical Elements in Shaping the Distribution of Kepler Planets

Robert F. Wilson et al.

Summary: Chemical abundances of planet-hosting stars provide insight into the composition of planet-forming environments. In this study, we measured the correlation between planet occurrence and chemical abundances for ten different elements. The results show that an enhancement in element abundances corresponds to an increase in planet occurrence, but the trends are weak. We also caution against interpreting trends between planet occurrence and stellar age due to degeneracies caused by Galactic chemical evolution, and make predictions for planet occurrence rates in nearby open clusters to facilitate demographics studies of young planetary systems.

The peculiar abundances of HE 1005-1439 A carbon-enhanced extremely metal-poor star contaminated with products of both s- and i-process nucleosynthesis

Partha Pratim Goswami et al.

Summary: Understanding the chemical composition of CEMP stars with enhanced heavy element abundances remains problematic. In this study, we analyzed the carbon-enhanced extremely metal-poor object HE 1005-1439 and found a unique surface chemical composition that is influenced by both s-process and i-process nucleosynthesis. The observed abundance pattern cannot be explained by theoretical s-process models, but our parametric-model-based analysis suggests contributions from both s- and i-process. We propose a formation scenario involving proton ingestion episodes followed by s-process AGB nucleosynthesis in a now extinct companion AGB star.

Chemical Composition of Bright Stars in the Northern Hemisphere: Star-Planet Connection

G. Tautvaisiene et al.

Summary: This study observed high-resolution spectra of 848 bright stars cooler than F5 spectral class and determined their atmospheric parameters, ages, and chemical compositions. The analysis showed that dwarf stars hosting high-mass planets are more metal rich, and low-mass planet hosts exhibit positive elemental abundance slopes with respect to condensation temperature.

Spectroscopic study of CEMP-(s & r/s) stars: Revisiting classification criteria and formation scenarios, highlighting i-process nucleosynthesis

Partha Pratim Goswami et al.

Summary: The enhanced abundance of s- and r-process elements in a subclass of CEMP stars, known as CEMP-r/s stars, remains poorly understood. The i-process nucleosynthesis is suggested as a promising mechanism for the origin of these stars. By conducting a detailed systematic follow-up spectroscopic study, the researchers aim to better understand the chemical signatures and formation mechanisms of five potential CH star candidates.

The Most Metal-poor Stars in the Magellanic Clouds Are r-process Enhanced*

Henrique Reggiani et al.

Summary: The chemical analysis of metal-poor stars in the Magellanic Clouds shows an enrichment in r-process element europium compared to Milky Way stars. This enrichment is likely due to the isolated chemical evolution of the Magellanic Clouds and their long history of accretion from the cosmic web.

Summary: The study aims to understand the impacts of different physical processes and initial conditions on the demographics of planetary population. Results show that properties of giant planets remain stable with at least ten embryos in each system, while only populations with 100 embryos are able to reach the giant-impact stage for inner terrestrial planets.

Origin of the heaviest elements: The rapid neutron-capture process

John J. Cowan et al.

Summary: The rapid neutron-capture process (r-process) is responsible for about half of the heavy elements found in nature, but uncertainties and open questions remain. Studies suggest that the production of the majority of heavy r-process elements may be associated with neutron-rich conditions, such as neutron star mergers.

Chemical abundances of 1111 FGK stars from the HARPS GTO planet search program IV. Carbon and C/O ratios for Galactic stellar populations and planet hosts

E. Delgado Mena et al.

Summary: Researchers derived carbon abundances from 757 FGK stars using high-resolution and high-quality spectra. They found that thick- and thin-disk stars show chemical discontinuity in their [C/Fe] ratios across the common metallicity range. Additionally, high-alpha metal-rich stars have significantly higher [C/Fe] ratios compared to thin-disk stars up to [Fe/H] similar to 0.2 dex. The study also reveals a general trend of [C/O] ratios as a function of [O/H], with a negative trend at higher oxygen abundances.

Host Star Metallicity of Directly Imaged Wide-orbit Planets: Implications for Planet Formation

C. Swastik et al.

Summary: Research findings show that directly imaged planets have host stars with metallicities close to solar, and the large scatter in metallicity suggests that a metal-rich environment may not be necessary to form massive planets at large orbital distances. Additionally, the planet mass-host star metallicity relation for directly imaged massive planets in wide orbits is very similar to that found for short-period super-Jupiters and brown dwarfs around main-sequence stars.
