Convergent Validity and Test-Retest Reliability of Multimodal Ultrasonography and Related Clinical Measures in People With Chronic Stroke

Tiev Miller et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the test-retest reliability of diagnostic ultrasonography measurements in survivors of stroke and evaluate their convergent validity with clinical comparators. The results showed good reliability for muscle stiffness, structure, and blood perfusion measurement and weak correlations between elastography measures and muscle stiffness as well as spasticity scores.

Spasticity, spastic dystonia, and static stretch reflex in hypertonic muscles of patients with multiple sclerosis

Luca Puce et al.

Summary: The study investigated EMG patterns underlying hypertonia in multiple sclerosis, finding that dynamic stretch reflex was prevalent and mainly in extensors, while static stretch reflex was predominantly in flexors. Spastic dystonia was mainly observed in extensors.

The Effects of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy on Spastic Muscle of the Wrist Joint in Stroke Survivors: Evidence From Neuromechanical Analysis

Yan Leng et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the influence of both neural and peripheral factors on post-stroke wrist joint spasticity. Radial extracorporeal shock wave (rESW) intervention may be more effective in addressing non-neural components of spasticity. Clinical management should take into account both neural and non-neural factors for optimal intervention strategies.

Validity and reliability of myotonometry for assessing muscle viscoelastic properties in patients with stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Maria-Isabel Garcia-Bernal et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the validity and reliability of myotonometry in assessing viscoelastic muscle features in stroke survivors. Results showed that myotonometry is a valid and reliable complementary tool for assessing muscle viscoelastic properties in stroke survivors. Further research is needed to draw definite conclusions about concurrent validity.
