Forecasting Current Velocity and Profile in a Strait Water Using Warped Gaussian Process

Kai Wei et al.

Summary: This paper developed a short-term ocean current forecasting approach and validated it using actual observation data. The results showed that the method had good performance in improving the accuracy of predictions, and the effects of factors such as window length, kernel function, and time interval on forecasting performance were analyzed.

Experimental and numerical investigation into effect of skirted caisson on local scour around the large-scale bridge foundation

Kai Wei et al.

Summary: This study conducted experimental and numerical investigations into the local scour of the skirted caisson. The results show that the skirted caisson can reduce the scour depth and the length and width of the scour hole compared to the uniform caisson. A wider skirt is helpful for preventing downward flow scour, but it increases the accelerated flow intensity at two sides. Increasing skirt elevation decreases the scour depth but increases the length and width of the scour hole within a specific range. The scour prevention is not sensitive to the skirt form.

Approaches in Scaling Small-Scale Experiments on the Breaking Wave Interactions with a Vertical Wall Attached with Recurved Parapets

Rajendran Ravindar et al.

Summary: The study examined interaction of breaking waves with three different recurved parapets on a vertical wall at two different scales, and suggested a combined approach to estimate forces by integrating pressure.

Methodology of evaluating local dynamic response of a hull structure subjected to slamming loads in extreme sea

Hang Xie et al.

Summary: The study analyzes the extreme impact velocity and impact pressure time history, structural response, and dynamic characteristics, finding that impact pressure is greater when the impact position is closer to the bow and upper deck. Attention is drawn to deformation and stress distribution in structural design, with the methodology offering guidance for predicting and improving the carrying capacity of ships under impact pressure.

Impact Pressure and Forces on a Vertical Wall with Different Types of Parapet

Rajendran Ravindar et al.

Summary: This paper explores the impact of adding parapets on wave loads on vertical seawall structures. The study shows that with proper parapet height and angle, parapets can reduce wave forces effectively.

Experimental study of breaking wave loads on elevated pile cap with rectangular cross-section

Jie Hong et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of breaking waves on elevated pile caps. It was found that with increasing clearance, the horizontal wave load and overturning moment increased, while the vertical load decreased, with the maximum horizontal wave load observed at the breaker tongue of the wave crest. The GEV distribution was effective in modeling the stochastic maximum horizontal and vertical breaking wave load.

Trivariate joint probability model of typhoon-induced wind, wave and their time lag based on the numerical simulation of historical typhoons

Kai Wei et al.

Summary: This study developed a trivariate joint probability model considering the relationship between wind, wave, and time lag. Findings suggest that more than 50% of typhoons at the example site have the maximum wind lagging behind the maximum wave. Higher typhoon-induced wind speed and wave height tend to occur simultaneously.
