Monitoring of friction-related failures using diffusion maps of acoustic time series

Summary: Friction-related failures are a common cause of catastrophic damage in mechanical systems, with scuffing being one of the most concerning mechanisms. In this study, a probabilistic analysis of acoustic signals recorded synchronously with the coefficient of friction was proposed for real-life experiments. Through analyzing the dynamic behavior of friction, surface states and upcoming failures could be identified.

Analysis on the interference assembly of camshaft with knurled tube and cam
