Free vibration analysis of nanoplates with auxetic honeycomb core using a new third-order finite element method and nonlocal elasticity theory

Quoc-Hoa Pham et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a finite element method for the free vibration analysis of a sandwich nanoplate with an auxetic honeycomb core. The method uses a nonlocal elasticity theory and a shear deformation theory without shear correction factors, and it is applicable to sandwich nanoplates with negative Poisson's ratio.

Investigation on the free vibration behavior of sandwich conical shells with reinforced cores

Mehdi Zarei et al.

Summary: In this study, the free vibration behavior of sandwich conical shells with reinforced cores was investigated using experimental, analytical, and numerical methods. A new effective smeared method was employed to determine equivalent stiffness of the whole structure. The results were validated through experimental modal analysis, finite element modeling, and considering factors such as stiffener cross-sectional area and orientation angle. The findings can serve as a benchmark for future studies.

A nonlocal quasi-3D theory for thermal free vibration analysis of functionally graded material nanoplates resting on elastic foundation

Quoc-Hoa Pham et al.

Summary: This article presents a finite element method based on a quasi-3D nonlocal theory to study the free vibration of functionally graded material nanoplates on an elastic foundation in a thermal environment. The study compares numerical results with previous research to verify accuracy and investigates the effects of various parameters on the free vibration of nanoplates.

Equivalent-Single-Layer discontinuous Galerkin methods for static analysis of multilayered shells

Giuliano Guarino et al.

Summary: An original formulation for the elastic analysis of multilayered shells is presented in this work, which includes representing the shell mean surface via a generic system of curvilinear coordinates, unified treatment of general shell theories via an Equivalent-Single-Layer approach, and using an Interior Penalty discontinuous Galerkin scheme for the solution of governing equations. The combined use of these features enables a high-order solution of the multilayered shell problem.

A novel hybrid-honeycomb structure: Enhanced stiffness, tunable auxeticity and negative thermal expansion

Xiang-Long Peng et al.

Summary: A novel hybrid-honeycomb structure with enhanced stiffness is proposed, and its effective thermoelastic properties can be widely tunable by tailoring the microstructural geometry and the constituent materials. The structure can be designed to concurrently possess an enhanced stiffness and a high degree of auxeticity and negative thermal expansion by properly choosing the geometrical and material parameters.

Mechanics of shear and normal deformable doubly-curved delaminated sandwich shells with soft core

Andras Szekrenyes

Summary: This work explores the application of different shear and normal deformation theories in delaminated sandwich shells with constant radii of curvature. The governing equations are deduced through the virtual work principle and the developed shell models are validated through several examples involving different scenarios. Results indicate that the proposed models accurately capture mechanical fields along the delamination front. The J-integral and energy release rates are also compared with satisfactory agreement.

Extended four-unknown higher-order shear deformation nonlocal theory for bending, buckling and free vibration of functionally graded porous nanoshell resting on elastic foundation

Trung Thanh Tran et al.

Summary: This article investigates the bending, buckling, and free vibration behaviors of functionally graded porous nanoshells on an elastic foundation, using a high-order shear deformation theory and Navier's solution. The study examines the influences of geometric dimensions, material properties, and elastic foundation stiffness on the response of the nanoshells, comparing numerical results with published works to assess accuracy and reliability.

Assessment of the effect of negative Poisson's ratio on the thermal postbuckling of temperature dependent FG-GRMMC laminated cylindrical shells

Hui-Shen Shen et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of auxetic materials on the thermal postbuckling behavior of graphene-reinforced metal matrix composite laminated cylindrical shells. Through molecular dynamics simulation and numerical studies, it is found that a functionally graded pattern can enhance the buckling temperature and thermal postbuckling strength of the shells.
