Risk Factors for Failed Fontan Procedure After Stage 2 Palliation

Masamichi Ono et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the outcomes of BCPS and identified risk factors for failed Fontan completion. The study found that hypoplastic left heart syndrome, unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect, high pulmonary artery pressure, and reduced ventricular function were risk factors for failure to successfully complete the Fontan procedure.

Outcomes of systemic-to-pulmonary artery shunt for single ventricular heart with extracardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous connection

Takuya Okamoto et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 41 children with single ventricular heart and extracardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous connection who underwent systemic-to-pulmonary artery shunt between 1998 and 2019. The study found that preoperative pulmonary venous obstruction at initial surgery was the most predictive factor for mortality before bidirectional Glenn operation.

Preoperative risk factors influencing inter-stage mortality after the Norwood procedure

Masamichi Ono et al.

Summary: A retrospective analysis of 322 neonates undergoing the Norwood procedure for HLHS or its variants identified low birth weight, restrictive atrial septum, and extracardiac anomalies as risk factors for inter-stage mortality. The study concluded that different risk factors affected inter-stage mortality at each stage of the procedure.
