Predictive Value of Hypoalbuminemia for Contrast-Associated Acute Kidney Injury: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis found that hypoalbuminemia is associated with an increased risk of developing CA-AKI. Hypoalbuminemia may be an independent predictor of CA-AKI and a potentially modifiable factor for clinical intervention.

Prognostic nutritional index and the risk of mortality in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Ziqiong Wang et al.

Summary: Nutritional status is related to clinical outcomes in cardiovascular disease patients, and the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) has been shown to be an independent prognostic factor for mortality in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), with higher PNI values associated with lower mortality rates.

Nutritional Risk Index Improves the GRACE Score Prediction of Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Summary: Malnutrition defined by NRI was independently associated with major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with acute coronary syndrome undergoing PCI, especially in those with diabetes, and NRI improved the predictive ability of GRACE score-based prognostic models.

Summary: The study found that removing race from the MDRD formula led to a significant reclassification of CKD stages in African American patients, while the reclassification rates were lower when using the CKD-EPI formula compared to MDRD.

Serum albumin levels and inflammation

Arik Sheinenzon et al.

Summary: This study examined the correlation between albumin levels and inflammatory indices in hospitalized patients, showing negative correlations between albumin and CRP/white blood cell levels and positive correlations with platelets/hemoglobin levels. The strongest negative correlation between albumin and CRP was found in the Internal Medicine departments. Linear regression analysis revealed a minor effect of CRP on albumin levels, particularly at very high CRP levels. Further exploration of the mechanisms underlying this negative correlation is needed.

Summary: The study found that hypertension is an independent risk factor for contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) and can be used for risk stratification. Physicians should pay more attention to the prevention and treatment of patients with hypertension in clinical practice.

Summary: Lower GNRI independently predicts all-cause mortality and major cardiovascular events in elderly patients with heart failure. Determination of nutritional status using GNRI may improve risk stratification in elderly patients with heart failure.
